Ceiling Fan Lights
Replacing a light with ceiling fan lights can be quite a task, but
if you follow a few simple steps, it should make the installation that
much easier and quicker. Most ceiling fans are quite heavy and vibration
occurs when they turn, so many fans require special mounting to hold
their weight. Safety should be your first concern. Your first step
should be to turn off the electrical circuit at the panel.
Loosen your current fixture from the ceiling and remove any screws
holding it in place. You will want the wires from the ceiling to be
exposed. If your current lighting fixture was not mounted directly
into a piece of wood or metal mount, you will need to add a ceiling
box for your ceiling fan lights. Remove the wiring from your old plastic
ceiling box, then remove the box by either taking out screws or just
pulling it down through the opening if no screws are present. Now you
can push into place your new metal ceiling box and thread the wires
through it's opening.
Next you will want to install the ceiling plate directly to the ceiling
box. Assemble the downrod and fan's motor housing. A ground wire should
be attached to the ceiling end of the downrod. There should be a neutral
wire, one for the fan, and another for the ceiling fan lights. Connect
all of the wires according to directions. The connection of wires depends
on how many you have in the ceiling and how many are in your chosen
fan. The directions will tell you which color wires connect together
for your particular situation.
Installing the blades for ceiling fan lights is probably the easiest
task. All hardware for installing the blades will be included with
your ceiling fan. Insert rubber grommets into all three end holes in
each blade. Using three screws attach the blades to a blade iron. Once
all blades are attached to its own blade iron you are ready to attach
the blades to the motor. Special screws are included for this. To finish
up you will now add the ceiling fan lights. Simply insert the light
housing onto the end of the wires on the fan and screw it into place.
Finish up by installing any bulbs needed.
